My Story – from Mongkok to Yishun

Hi there!

This is Pear, born and raised in Hong Kong. For more than 2 decades I was living in the busiest point of the city – Mongkok (And yah, it’s the backdrop of many gangster fighting movies with all the neon lights).

But somehow, I didn’t appreciate the convenience and metropolitan lifestyle it provided. It’s so crowded everywhere: you barely can see the sky from below all the skyscrapers.

I wanted to live aboard, in a more laidback lifestyle – watching clouds floating in the wide skyline, gardening my backyard, in a landed house which is not far from a Hogwarts-like castle (Hi five! Harry Potter fans!).

Wait…But then how did I end up in another metropolitan city?

Because a dreamer has to come back down to the Earth! Or at least a bit closer to the ground…

I’m so pampered by what Hong Kong can provide, I can’t really “survive’’ living in countryside with the clouds and flowers. I need to find something in the middle, and achievable – my family can’t afford to send me to study overseas, I’m not an IT genius, I can’t sing, not good at sports – I’m just an ordinary girl who loves going out with friends and playing mobile games.

Hong Kong

To be frank, Singapore wasn’t my desired country to move to, it’s hot and… very hot.

But I have to start somewhere anyway.

Thanks to my not-so-popular engineering degree, it got me my first job as an Engineer in a semiconductor firm. This is the few MNCs in my field that have a base in Hong Kong, and headquartered in Singapore. So after 2 years in the firm and I decided it’s time to move aboard, I asked my reporting manager – is there any job opening in our Singapore headquarter?

And…yes! My journey begins from there.
